What it is

Moissanite is silicon carbide. It occurs in nature only in trace amounts, so the stones used in jewelry are created in a laboratory. It is a distinct gemstone, not a mined diamond, and not a lab-grown diamond, which is carbon and chemically identical to a mined one.

How it looks

Moissanite bends light more than diamond does, which produces stronger flashes of colour, often described as fire. In everyday light it reads bright and lively. Some people prefer that; some prefer the cooler, whiter return of a diamond. Both are legitimate preferences.

How it wears

Moissanite is a hard stone and stands up well to daily wear. That says nothing about the setting or the finish around it. Our launch pieces use plated finishes, and plating wears with time and contact, so care instructions matter as much here as the stone does.

On testing and certificates

A handheld thermal tester reading does not prove a stone is a diamond, and it does not establish grade or quality. Certificates should be judged by who issued them; a branded card or serial-number lookup supplied with a stone is not the same as independent verification. We will only publish certification details we can stand behind for a specific product.

Choosing with confidence

Look at proportions rather than carat labels, check the stone's actual measurements in millimetres, and consider how often you'll wear the piece. Where we don't yet have verified measurements for a product, we say so on the product page rather than estimating.
